The need for a credentialing organization for hair restoration surgeons first surfaced in 1995, when the American Hair Loss Council began fielding calls from the public about how to recognize a competent hair restoration surgeon. Out of a series of meetings, the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery was born in late 1996, with a set of examinations devised that would carry with it membership to the Board.
